Sometimes your career—whether it’s your first, second, or third—is something you’ve been planning for years. You’ve made up your mind and put in your time, and arriving feels like a huge accomplishment.
But sometimes you don’t know where you’ve been headed. You may have been wandering, trying different things, and wondering whether or not there’s any underlying order at all. You’re about ready to place your bets with “not” when suddenly—there you are.
“Don’t you love arriving at just the right place without knowing it was where you were headed?” writes the guest on this week’s BSR Broadcast. After spending decades as a non-profit leader and consultant, Holly Pruett suddenly realized she wanted to do something different. She wanted to work more personally with people at key moments in their lives. She wanted to lead with her heart and her head. She wanted to help people tell their stories. So she spent eight months training in ceremony design and delivery, and is now a certified Life-Cycle Celebrant.
“Becoming a Celebrant is not something I could have predicted,” Holly writes, “but it turns out to be the perfect expression of my own life story.” Encore careers and “second acts” often feel that way; even if they’re not what we planned for, they make perfect sense in retrospect. This talk with Holly, all about how her career(s) came full circle, will be fascinating—and inspiring. You can listen this Wednesday, March 19th—or any time after that! The BSR Broadcasts (Jackie’s weekly show on Solo Pro Radio) are now available for listening right on the Better, Smarter, Richer website. New episodes are posted on Wednesday afternoons, so come on over (and don’t forget to check out past episodes while you’re there!)
