Cynthia Mackey is a techno wiz and re-careering expert; “I love technology and the rapid pace of change,” she says. She graduated from USC’s Engineering school, has an MS in Telecommunications from Golden Gate University (where she has also taught as an adjunct professor), and her corporate experience spans the entire supply chain from manufacturing to product marketing and sales.
But when she decided to strike out on her own to work as a freelancer, she had to look hard at what tied everything together: “In all my assignments I worked with a variety of people and management levels, learning a lot about customer service. To me, every job became a way to learn how to manage expectations and provide better service.” She was passionate about helping people solve complicated technological problems, and was frustrated by the small business digital divide: “Large corporations could afford 7 figure solutions, but small businesses were left in the cold.” That’s when she started Winning Strategies LLC, wanting to find ways to help small/medium businesses succeed.
Everything came together when she participated in an NPR interview about senior entrepreneurs and realized just how many people were looking for help: “I received emails from different states and countries! My eyes were opened to this huge potential problem with no immediate solution.” She started working with a couple of like-minded team members to create the Baby Boomer Business Online Institute, which focuses on teaching non-tech savvy Boomers the skills they need to succeed
Today, Cynthia is an award-winning trainer, and has taught numerous workshops, seminars and webinars throughout California. She is a sought after speaker on topics such as digital marketing, senior entrepreneurship, online marketing, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers for women and people of color, and she has long supported bridging the digital divide by volunteering with non-profits in the area of digital literacy, and remote or ‘virtual’ employment/entrepreneurship opportunities. She is also member of the board of expert advisors for the California Emerging Technology Fund.
