Here at Better, Smarter, Richer, we spend a lot of time looking towards the future With 78 million Baby Boomers living longer and healthier lives, hitting retirement age, and grappling with what it means to stay productive, we’re witnessing the birth of the encore entrepreneur—someone who is 50+ and excited about all the possibilities for growth as the 21st century marches forward.
But it’s important to pause every now and then and look back towards where we came from. The Baby Boom produced an incredibly influential generation that literally changed history. What does it mean to be a Baby Boomer today? How do our pasts affect not only our presents, but the thrilling futures we’re working to build?
Meet Sharon Sultan Cutler and Cookie Tischler. Sharon is a risk-taker, niche-maker, and lifelong entrepreneur who specializes in connecting baby boomer and senior consumers with businesses, agencies and resources that meet their needs. Cookie is a painter, writer, teacher, and show biz wizard. These former classmates have not met in person since high school, but have spoken on the phone at least once a day for the better part of two years and together have produced a treasure: the book Once Upon Our Times (Because Life Isn’t a Fairytale): 65 Years Growing Up Baby Boomer, scheduled to be published in winter of 2014-15.
Read more about Sharon, Cookie, and Once Upon Our Times! They are also working on Bandstand Diaries: The Philadelphia Years, which chronicles the early days of American Bandstand, and they were lucky enough to score two of the original dancers (“Regulars” Arlene Sullivan and Bunny Gibson) as co-authors!
You won’t want to miss this conversation. Once Upon Our Times is historic, nostalgic, and totally relevant to the present. What has real life been like in the six+ decades since the Baby Boomer generation began impacting everything it touched…and what does it mean for encores today? You can listen this Wednesday, March 5th–or any time after that! The BSR Broadcasts (Jackie’s weekly show on Solo Pro Radio) are now available for listening right on the Better, Smarter, Richer website. New episodes are posted on Wednesday afternoons, so come on over (and don’t forget to check out past episodes while you’re there!)
