How Much Do You Have to Love Your Product or Service?
Fall in Love with Your Work All Over Again!
“You have to love it so much that you would mortgage your house for it.”
I laughed when Tyler Stone, this week’s podcast guest, said it, but she was absolutely serious–and it’s true. There are lots of things that go into a great business (check out my seven tips for solo, creative, and encore entrepreneurs if you need a reminder!), but this might be the number one ingredient: commitment.
Tyler is a mult-talented producer/remixer/singer/ songwriter/dj, and she built her career as one of the first female house music producers. She has had a varied and exciting career, and today she is continuing to push the envelop of electronic production with her band Sutro, where she lends her sophisticated programming and distinctively sultry vocals to their fresh combination of live musicianship and DJ sensibility.
If there’s one thing she truly embodies as a creative entrepreneur, it’s a commitment to her music. At one point she was debating over whether to hire someone to help with marketing, and suddenly stopped in her tracks. “Wait a second. If I don’t think my record is worth paying someone to promote it, I have a problem!”
This is a truly inspiring conversation, and I hope you’ll take a listen. It’s a great opportunity to “renew your vows” to your product or service. After all, if you don’t believe in it–if you’re not willing to commit to it, to go the extra mile for it, to put something on the line for it–then why should anyone else? Listen now, and fall in love with what you do all over again.
