How to Create a Better, Smarter, Richer Study Group

The real power of Better Smarter Richer comes when you actually do the work.  That means chapter by chapter reading the material then answering the questions and filling in the blanks fully, honestly and openly… then sharing your insights with others.

At Portland Community College we are offering BSR study groups every five weeks.  These groups are facilitated by the author herself, Jackie B Peterson.  As you know, this book is the culmination of 35 years of Jackie’s mentoring and advising with small businesses, solopreneurs and creatives.  For many years Jackie looked for written advice to give to her clients to help them achieve financial success, but could not find anything.  Finally she wrote the book she wanted her clients to read.

But what if you are not in Portland to attend one of the BSR study groups at Portland Community College?

We say, Start Your Own Study Group and here is how:

  1. Gather 2-5 creatives like you who are determined to make your creative work give you more financial support.
  2. Each of you buys a copy of the book.  You will want your own copy to write in, to carry around and dip into when you have time, to  have to think about and to record your  inspirations and ah-ha moments so you can share them with your group or other mentors and supporters you have in your life.
  3. Set a time, date and location for the first meeting.  Plan on two hours.  This will be the organizing meeting.
    1. Each person introduces him or herself- and talks a bit about their art
    2. Talk about what each of you hopes to achieve through this time together
    3. Commit to supporting each other through the journey you are going to take over the next weeks.
    4. Set up a calendar of meetings- the assignments can be divided into as few as four meetings or as many as eight. Tip: Schedule all the meetings at the beginning and choose a consistent day of the week, time of day and location.
    5. Assign each person to do the first assignment (Chapter one or Chapters one and two)
    6. Email Jackie for the learning objectives guide for each chapter (jackieb@jackiebpeterson.com)
    7. Please let Jackie know about your group. Use the blog to report in- successes, questions, confusion, and triumphs.  Please share with everyone how your group is doing.
    8. Enjoy and grow.
